Ahhhh… it’s been almost a week since I posted anything here. That was not my intention, but sickness, and family obligations, and blah, blah, blah.
I’m back with a breakdown of what beauty products I’ve purchased this month. Since this is the first time I’m doing this it would probably be helpful to know I give myself a budget of $150 a month. Writing these posts will hopefully be a way of holding myself accountable to that limit, and explaining why I purchased the products I did. Let’s dive right in:
Nest Fragrances Rollerball Trio $18 ~ These were sort of a impulse purchase as I was waiting in line at Sephora. I had actually intended to buy a small bottle of the Citrine fragrance included in this set since it’s become something of a signature scent for me after I got a sample in my Sephora Play box last summer. I’ve been wanting to try the other two fragrances – Midnight Fleur and Indigo – ever since I discovered the brand. And into my basket it went.
Secret Key Starting Treatment Essence $13 ~ Last month I finally used up the bottle of Missha First Treatment Essence Intensive I bought last April when I started using Asian skincare. I was hoping I wouldn’t have to repurchase since I hit the Kikumasamune High Moist Lotion pretty hard on a daily basis, but alas my skin has been dullsville ever since. But I am a skincare junkie with commitment issues, so of course I had to try something new. Especially when that new thing is half the price of the original. But this one is a real crap-shoot for me because it uses a different ferment (galactomyces instead of saccharomyces and bifida) that I haven’t had great luck with. But it’s got a shorter ingredients list so maybe the extracts in it are there is amounts that will actually make a difference (probably not, but let a desperate woman justify her purchases, alright?). Ugh. Whatever. Only time will tell.
Su:m37 Miracle Rose Cleansing Stick $22 ~ Most of the time I hate paying more than the bare minimum for my cleansers. Like, the cashier at the drugstore has to pry the $15 for my standard CeraVe Foaming Cleanser out of my hands. A lot of that is because I think a cleanser has one job: cleansing my skin without trashing my moisture barrier. That’s it. I don’t need fancy extracts or actives because they’re not going to be on my face long enough to make a difference, I just need it to clean. But sometimes I’m lazy. Sometimes I need motivation to get off my ass and wash my face and the lure of bare-bones cleanser just isn’t enough. So for times like those I need a fancy cleanser; something that turns washing my face into a pampering, luxurious experience. I used to get that with Sulwhasoo Snowise EX Cleansing Foam, but then they reformulated it to a higher pH and I thought my face was going to melt off like that sadistic, rat-faced Nazi guy from Raiders of the Lost Ark when I used it. I miss it, but hopefully this will fill it’s shoes on days when I can’t otherwise be fucked to wash my face.
My Beauty Diary 8+1 Set $8.99 ~ I actually didn’t buy this online and have no idea how reputable a site I just linked to is, but it’s the same set I got at my local asian market. While I personally love Taiwanese sheet masks the one thing I don’t love is that I have to commit to a box of 8 or 10. Sometimes that works out fine, but sometimes it’s an epic fail (*glares at MBD Apple Polyphenol masks*) and then I’m stuck with a bunch of sheet masks I can’t use. So of course I snatched this right up.
First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Cream Intense Hydration $12 ~ This is another impulse purchase while waiting in line at Sephora. To be fair though I’ve been wanting to try this for a while. It’s really a pain in the ass to have skin that’s picky about silicones, so when I find a cream that’s free the ‘cones I know will set off my skin I’ve got to give it a try. The 2oz is perfect since if it doesn’t work out for my face I can just toss it in my purse and use it up on my hands.
Makeup Forever Step 1 Skin Equalizing Primer – Smoothing $37 ~ This is another purchase inspired by the Sephora Play box. I don’t do a full face of makeup often – in fact most days I slap some sunscreen on and call it done -, but when I do a primer is non-negotiable part of the process. I don’t know what voodoo MUFE packaged in this tube, but holy shit does it make my skin look fabulous.
Cosrx Ultimate Nourishing Rice Overnight Mask $13.50 ~ Since I love their honey overnight mask so much I decided to give this one a try to. *shrugs* That’s all I’ve got.
Josie Maran 100% Argan Oil & Farmacy Honey Savior All-in-One Salve ~ I got these with my points at Sephora. To be honest the girl behind the register told me to pick out a couple of freebees and I panic picked them because I have that fear of being the asshole who holds up the line and I’d already been there for what felt like days. I should have passed and accumulated more points, but meh. Here we are. I’m not super hyped about either product, but I’m sure I’ll find a use for them.
